Fun Things to Do at Redondo Beach Pier, California

Redondo Beach, a beautiful coastal city in Los Angeles County, California, is known for its family-friendly atmosphere, sandy shores, and vibrant pier. This picturesque destination offers a variety of activities for visitors of all ages, making it an ideal spot for a weekend getaway.

We visited Redondo Beach on a weekend. Leaving home around 9:00 in the morning, we arrived to find the area still relatively quiet. However, as the day progressed and the sun rise higher in the sky, more and more people began to flock in Redondo Beach Pier. From the parking lot, we headed straight to meet our relatives at a vacant picnic table they found, and together, we set it up with all the food we brought.

FUN THINGS TO DO AT REDONDO BEACH PIER

Picnic with Family or Friends: A picnic by the beach is a perfect way to enjoy the ocean breeze and spend quality time with loved ones. We brought food and drinks to share with the whole family. I baked my oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and M&M chocolate chip cookies.

Try a Variety of Fresh Seafood: One of the highlights of Redondo Beach is the fresh seafood. We visited Quality Seafood, where you can choose from a wide selection of seafood such as crabs, shrimps, clams, and fish, and they will cook it for you. Quality Seafood is divided into several areas, including a crab pit, a fish market, and a snack bar that offers fish n’ chips, clam chowder, and more. They also have a beer and wine area. For more information, see Quality Seafood Menu.

Fishing: Although we didn’t catch any fish, fishing off the pier is a popular activity. It’s a relaxing way to spend the afternoon, even if the fish aren’t biting. Bring your fishing gear and try your luck! We were teasing that we would not have food for dinner because we did not catch any fish.

Spend Time at the Beach: We spent time on the shore exchanging stories while the kids built sandcastles. Some of us took a dip in the water, which was refreshingly cold. Remember to apply sunscreen to avoid sunburn, especially on those easy-to-miss spots. Despite the sunny weather, the cool ocean breeze keeps the temperature comfortable.

Ride a Paddleboard or Kayak: Redondo Beach offers paddleboard and kayak rentals for those looking to explore the water. It’s a fun way to enjoy the scenic coastline.

Take a Whale Watching Tour: Depending on the season, you can embark on a whale-watching tour. These tours offer the chance to see majestic whales and other marine life up close.

Visit the Redondo Beach Pier: The pier is home to various shops, restaurants, and entertainment options. You can find everything from souvenir shops to arcades, making it a great place to stroll and explore. Oh! Don’t forget to try the Dipping Dots ice cream. It was something new for me. It has a unique texture that makes eating it a fun experience.

Enjoy a Meal with a View: Many restaurants on the pier offer outdoor seating with ocean views. Enjoy a delicious meal while watching the waves and soaking in the beach atmosphere.

Bike Along the Strand: The Strand is a popular bike path that runs along the coast. You can rent a bike and enjoy a leisurely ride with beautiful ocean views. It’s a great way to see more of the beach and get some exercise.

Skateboard at the Redondo Skate Park: The Skate Park is also a great spot for skateboard enthusiasts to practice and enjoy.

Watch the Sunset: End your day by watching the sunset over the Pacific Ocean. Redondo Beach offers some of the most breathtaking sunsets, making it a perfect way to conclude your visit.
