Chasing the Sunset at Sacobia Bridge, Clark, Pampanga (+ Cycles & Brew)

Weekend always calls for a bike ride! This time our destination is the Sacobia Bridge in Pampanga. According to my research, the Sacobia Bridge in Pampanga connects New Clark City to other districts of Clark including Clark International Airport. It runs across Sacobia River and it measures 894 meters long and 29.5 meters wide, having a total of six lanes with two bike lanes and sidewalks.

Our entry point to reach Sacobia Bridge is Clark Main Gate which is located along M.A. Roxas Highway. We started our ride past 5:00 in the afternoon because I was late for few minutes, but nevertheless, I’m thankful that a friend waited for me patiently at our meeting place at SM Clark.

A photo op at the Sacobia Bridge

If you are a beginner, and it is your first time to go for a bike ride at Clark (main gate as the point of entry), do not be deceived. The road may look flat and easy, but actually it is false flat. Meaning, it is an uphill road that appears flat. I have to admit, I still get tired easily even though I have passed by this highway for several times already. I consider myself a beginner and maybe will always be.

Oh! By the way, aside from your helmet and other gears, do not forget to bring your bike lights (front and rear). We had another slight cause of delay to catch the sunset because my friend forgot her rear light since she used another bike that day. I told her we can just go back and get it, but I realized my helmet has a blinking LED light on it. We exchanged helmets and that sufficed for the guard to let us pass through. Yey! But at this point, we need to hurry up.

As we pedal on our way to our destination, my friend was contemplating if we should still push through or just change our route and destination. According to her, we might not catch the sunset anymore.

When she asked me, I told her that it was up to her. But at the back of my mind, I was honestly shy to tell her that I really wanted to see the sunset there (ooops! now she knows). Also, it would be my first time to see the bridge. If I am not mistaken the design of the arcs of this bridge resembles the logo of New Clark City, which is shaped as a star. True enough, at a certain angle you would notice it from afar.

On fire! The beauty of God’s creation. No filter needed.

Thankfully, we made it at the Sacobia Bridge and managed to get there on time. The sun was about to set and it’s nearly getting dark when we reached there. As far as I remember, some of the roads we passed by such as Gil Puyat Avenue and Prince Balagtas Avenue are descending. Thus, that made us speed up a little bit than the usual pace we had (di ko pa kasi kasing level ang kasama ko 😅).

I really do love watching the sunset. The feeling is dramatic, yet calming. Just like the sunrise, for me, it is a representation of hope that comes from the Lord. It makes me reflect on things about life as well.

I think the bridge is not yet officially operational. There’s a security guard stationed and going further is not allowed. By the way, I didn’t know that Clark has a solar power plant. I just learned about it when I saw solar panels near the foot of the bridge and did a little research later on. Anyway, it was already dark when we left Sacobia Bridge.

STOPOVER AT CYCLES AND BREW

As we go back, deciding where to go next. We found this place, Cycles & Brew, which is located at E. Jacinto Street. It is nearby Clark Museum and Clark Parade Grounds.

As far as I can remember, this area was so quiet years ago. Now, there are restaurants nearby and a lot of people hangout here especially at night.

Anyway, Cycles & Brew not only offers food and drinks, but also sells bikes, bike parts and other stuff related. This place is not only for cyclists who wanted to stopover, relax a bit, and grab something to eat and drink, but it’s also for anyone who wishes to visit and dine-in.

Sadly, I took very few photos of this place because I was tired, hungry, and above all very thirsty. We ordered Cycles & Burger (1/3lb), Frankfurter Sausage, Iced Dirty Matcha Latte, and Mangoes n’ Cream. Everything in my eyes was appetizing when they served it. For more information, see Cycles & Brew’s Menu.

We split our food in half so that we both get to taste each. I like the sausage best as compared to the burger patty because it is tastier. Meanwhile, I have to say that the sausage bun served was a bit dry. Not sure if it was toasted too much or might be nearly getting old. Unlike the burger bun, it was soft. Nevertheless, both are delicious. I also like the iced dirty matcha latte. Coffee and matcha in one, perfect! Yet, I was not able to sleep right away that night. What a great idea to drink coffee at night, right?

We were very full when we left Cycles & Brew. As I pedal back home, feeling the cool breeze of air, I realized what a beautiful journey and night it was with my bicycle. I was able to watch the sunset, recharged my body with good food, and was able to get home safely. Small things, yet meaningful and something to be thankful for.
