Choco-late de Batirol at Camp John Hay, Baguio City

Whenever we visit Baguio City, Choco-late de Batirol has always been in our itinerary. Located in Igorot Garden, Camp John Hay, Choco-late de Batirol is known for their traditional chocolate drink that is made from local cacao beans. This place has been known to both tourists and locals who wants to sip a cup of hot chocolate to make them feel warm, while enjoying the ambiance of nature.

Last August 2019, we went to Baguio City for a quick vacation. My friends and I decided to have our afternoon snacks and rest for a while at Choco-late de Batirol. Upon reaching the place, we were quite saddened at first because it is under renovation and they only accept take-out orders. But since we’re here, we ordered anyway.

While patiently waiting, we were able to watch how they traditionally prepare their hot chocolate drink. In spite of being in this place for several times, it is my first time to see how it is actually prepared. The ingredients are mixed in a copper pot using a wooden whisk, which is also known as batirol. I think this procedure makes the chocolate drink delicious and thick.

Personally, what makes it even more enjoyable is when it is paired with suman sa lihia and turon de langka. This is what I usually order when dining in. But since we cannot stay, we just ordered bibingka for take-out, which is easier to eat even while walking.

I would recommend you to try Choco-late de Batirol. Other than the famous traditional chocolate drink that is perfect for the cold weather, the ambiance is also nice and cozy. It is absolutely best to dine-in with your family or friends, while having a good conversation and catching-up. My friends and I enjoyed even though it so happened that we went during the time it was under renovation and raining.

How to get to Camp John Hay

From Baguio City, go to the jeepney terminal located near Igorot Park and Burnham Park. Take a jeepney going to Scout Barrio and tell the driver to drop you off at the gate of Camp John Hay. Alternatively, you may opt to take a taxi.

How to get to Baguio City
