Nestled in southeastern Wisconsin, Lake Geneva is a charming resort city known for its stunning freshwater lake and historic mansions. This popular destination offers a blend of natural beauty, rich history, and a vibrant downtown area, making it a perfect spot for a day trip or a weekend getaway.

I never thought that we would be stepping into the state of Wisconsin, given that our relatives are from Illinois. Little did I know, it’s just about 30 minutes away from where we were staying during our first few days in Illinois. Thanks to our relatives who brought us here, we had the opportunity to visit Lake Geneva, a picturesque resort city that truly lived up to its reputation.

Upon reaching Lake Geneva, we bought our tickets for the historic mansion boat tour scheduled for 6:00 pm. With more than an hour to spare before the tour, we decided to explore the downtown area. It is filled with boutique shops, restaurants, and cafés, which offers a delightful spot for shopping and dining.

We finally found Kilwins, the ice cream shop we were looking for. My sweet tooth was in heaven with all the displayed sweet desserts and delicacies. I had a blueberry cone while Glenn opted for a marshmallow s’mores. I realized, I should have ordered the smallest cone size, as the regular size was quite a lot for me. American size be like!

To kill time, we sat on a bench under a tree, exchanged stories, and enjoyed the serene surroundings. It was finally time to board the boat for our lake tour. The historic mansion boat tour provided an enchanting view of the mansions along the lake’s shore. These grand estates, often owned by prestigious and well-known individuals, boast a rich history and stunning architecture. It felt like stepping into a movie setting, with houses near the lake complete with yachts.

Time to Board

The boat tour lasted for an hour, which offers a glimpse into the lavish past of Lake Geneva’s elite residents. After the tour, we had dinner at Popeye’s on Lake Geneva, which provided a satisfying end to our day before heading home.
